Fort Atkinson’s Memorial Day services are held each year at the Evergreen Cemetery. Typically, the parade begins at the Legion Dugout at 10:15 AM and then proceeds north on Main Street to the Evergreen Cemetery. The Blackhawk High School Band leads the Memorial Day Parade into the cemetery to the Soldiers Monument, located in the Soldiers Circle (Section 2), which is the site of the Memorial Day services.
The service begins at the Evergreen Cemetery at 11:00 AM with the invocation. The program includes a keynote speaker and the reading of Logan’s Orders and the Gettysburg Address. Following the decoration of the monument, taps is played and the program concludes with the benediction. In the event of inclement weather, the Evergreen service is held at the Legion Dugout.
